What is dms on Instagram? The term dm stands for “direct messaging” and refers to the direct messaging feature that Instagram provides users. Direct messaging means sending pictures, texts, videos, and direct links of profiles and hashtags to people, who are also in the platform. The great thing about this function is that it allows people to send these things to other recipients privately. This simply means that only the sender and the chosen receivers will be able to see the message. The direct messaging function actually works the same way an email works.
In order to send an instant message to a friend or a person in the platform, take a look at the upper right corner of your dashboard. If you look at that section, you will see an icon that looks like a box or a drawer. Click on that icon and Instagram will prompt you to choose whether you want to share a message, picture, or video to followers or directly to a friend. You then have to choose what exactly you are going to send and then type the username of your friend on the recipient space provided. When all of those things are done, then the last step is to send the message. After you send the direct message, your friend will receive a notification that you sent him a direct message.
